Hesperia High School senior Alexis Cisneros won Mojave Water Agency's 2024 essay contest. Her innovative water conservation ideas and presentation secured the first-place spot, earning a $3,000 scholarship.
The agency's essay contest challenged high school students in its service area to propose water conservation ideas beyond conventional practices like shorter showers and turning off faucets.
As part of the competition, students were paired with community mentors, and Hesperia City Manager Rachel Molina had the opportunity to mentor Cisneros.
